Given the great touristic potential of this region, we decided to open a dedicated office in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano. This allows us to be close to operators in the industry who are interested in pursuing a more sustainable vision of tourism and want to obtain a certification that shows their commitment to the future of South Tyrol.
The GSTC certification is an international standard that aims to concretely encourage the development of all aspects of sustainable tourism, both of the hotels and the destinations. Being recognized worldwide, it allows establishments and destinations to concretely demonstrate their commitment to promoting sustainable management of tourism from an economic, social and environmental point of view.
Nachhaltigkeit und der verantwortungsbewusste Umgang mit Umfeld und Umwelt ist ein Thema, für das die öffentliche Meinung immer sensibler wird und welches auch in der Tourismusbranche zunehmend an Relevanz gewinnt. Angesichts des großen touristischen Potenzials der Region, haben wir uns entschlossen, ein eigenes Büro in der autonomen Provinz Bozen zu eröffnen. Dies ermöglicht es uns, dort in der Nähe potenzieller Tourismusakteure zu sein, die an einer nachhaltigeren Vision des Tourismus interessiert sind und ihnen durch die Ausstellung eines Zertifikats ihr Engagement für die Zukunft Südtirols zu bescheinigen. Die GSTC-Zertifizierung ist ein internationaler Standard, der darauf abzielt, die Entwicklung eines nachhaltigen Tourismus in all seinen Aspekten, sowohl in den Hotels als auch in den Reisezielen, konkret zu fördern. Das Zertifikat ist weltweit anerkannt und ermöglicht es Einrichtungen und Reisezielen, ihr Engagement für ein nachhaltiges Tourismusmanagement in wirtschaftlicher, sozialer und ökologischer Hinsicht nachzuweisen.
Die GSTC-Zertifizierung zielt darauf ab, das Konzept der Nachhaltigkeit im Tourismus in praktischer und umfassender Weise zu fördern. Dies geschieht durch die Umsetzung von Grundsätzen und Anforderungen zur Verringerung der Umweltauswirkungen, die Aufwertung und den Schutz des lokalen Kulturerbes und die Maximierung des sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Nutzens für die lokalen Gemeinschaften.
Wenn das Unternehmen bereit ist, das Audit durchzuführen, plant Vireo ein erstes Zertifizierungsaudit (Main Assessment). In dieser Phase werden die Anforderungen der für die Einrichtung geltenden GSTC-Norm überprüft. Bei Erfolg wird das Zertifikat einige Tage nach dem Audit ausgestellt.
Das GSTC-Zertifikat hat eine Laufzeit von 3 Jahren.
Die Gäste werden sich zunehmend der Nachhaltigkeit der angebotenen Dienstleistungen und Produkte und der Notwendigkeit von Maßnahmen zum Schutz und zur Erhaltung der Umwelt bewusst. Der GSTC-Standard ist international erkannt und ermöglicht es zertifizierten Betrieben, ihr Engagement für die Einführung und Förderung eines ökologisch, sozial und wirtschaftlich nachhaltigen Managementsystems nachzuweisen.
GSTC-zertifizierte Beherbergungsbetriebe können mit ihrem Status werben, indem sie das GSTC-Logo auf ihrer Website und in ihren Werbematerialien verwenden und sich so von der Konkurrenz abheben und ihr Engagement für die Umsetzung eines nachhaltigen Managementsystems bekannt machen.

VIREO AND IDM ALTO ADIGE
3 - IDM, a level model
In addition to the GSTC certification, companies in the South Tyrolian tourism sector also have the opportunity to obtain a sustainability label that is specifically designed for South Tyrol. The Label has been carefully developed and is owned by IDM Südtirol - Alto Adige. It is intended to support organisations and destinations in South Tyrol on their path to sustainability. The variants of the South Tyrolian sustainability seal in three different colours indicate three different certification levels and therefor three different stages on the path to sustainability.
IDM and Hotels
Accommodation establishments can also receive the South Tyrolean Sustainability Seal. In this case, the process is different from that for destinations. In collaboration with the Association of Hoteliers and Public Operators in South Tyrol (HGV), IDM has defined which sustainability certificates can be recognised for the award of the South Tyrolean sustainability label. Accommodation providers can apply for the South Tyrolean Sustainability Label by presenting a previously acquired and recognised certificate. GSTC certification enables you to immediately obtain level 3 of the South Tyrolean Sustainability Label. South Tyrolean businesses that have already obtained GSTC certification can apply directly to IDM using their application form.
What is the difference between GSTC and IDM?
When it comes to differentiating between the IDM and GSTC certification it is important to note that the South Tyrolean sustainability label is a regionally specialized label whereas the GSTC certification has a global focus. The third level of the IDM sustainability label corresponds to the globally recognised GSTC standard. However, a separate application must be made for the GSTC certification. Vireo is accredited to issue both certifications. Hotels can only receive the IDM certificate if they already have another recognized certification. Hotels that are GSTC certified can apply directly to IDM for a third-level certificate on this basis.

Neben dem GSTC Zertifikat gibt es in Südtirol das regionale und von IDM Südtirol entwickelte Tourism Council (GSTC) entwickelt. Das Label ist Eigentum von IDM Südtirol – Alto Adige und soll Organisationen und Destinationen in Südtirol auf dem Weg zur Nachhaltigkeit unterstützen. Auch Beherbergungsbetriebe können das Südtiroler Nachhaltigkeitssiegel erhalten. Der Prozess ist in diesem Fall anders als bei Destinationen. Die dritte Stufe der Nachhaltigkeitslabels von IDM entspricht dem weltweit anerkannten GSTC-Standard. Für die GSTC-Zertifizierung muss sich aber separat beworben werden. Vireo is accredited to issue both certifications. Hotels können das IDM-Zertifikat nur dann erhalten, wenn bereits eine angemessene andere Zertifizierung vorliegt. Hotels, die GSTC zertifiziert sind können sich auf Basis dessen direkt bei IDM auf ein Zertifikat der dritten Stufe bewerben.
